  Universal Itinerary: South Africa 10 day Special interest tour - Um/Draks/N-Kzn/Cpt

A 'World in one country', South Africa's two most exciting provinces are KwaZulu- Natal and the Cape province. These boast richest Culture, wildest Game Safari, most diverse Nature, most extreme as well as mildest Climate, highest and lowest Land and Sea, earliest History, both soft and extreme Adventure and deepest Character. Choice Tours offers groups with a Passion, from Photography to Culture study and from extreme Adventure to experiencing Historical events in breathtaking landscapes. This Tour Program is ideal for Clubs, Youth/ Student groups, Environmental study missions, Sport teams, Nature junkies and fact finding missions. Day 1. (D)
Arr. DIA. Transfer to Durban and U'Shaka Marine World for snorkeling 'with the sharks'. Late afternoon, on to Umkomaas, on the South Coast of the province of Kwazulu- Natal. O/n KwaMnandi Lodge.

Day 2. (B, D)
Special Interest program, including or excluding a selection of kayaking, raft building, mountain biking, archery, excursion into Zulu Cultural heartland (4x4 in rainy season), horse riding, dolphin/whale watching. The evening is reserved for interaction with a local expert on the topic of your choice. O/n KwaMnandi Lodge.

Day 3. (B, D)
We leave the lovely east coast of South Africa behind and ascend the Drakensberg. The route traverses into the mountain foothills, through territories featured in Alan Paton's "Cry the Beloved Country" and takes us into Underberg, starting point of the ascent of the famous mountain 'Sani Pass', into the Kingdom of Lesotho, a hair raising, hair pin bends experience with the cherry on top, a Gluwhein in Winter or local beer in Summer. Passengers love the interaction with the Basothos and their fascinating culture. In the afternoon, we descend the pass (also not for the faint hearted !), on the way to our lodge. Alternatively (optional extra), a screaming fun way to ascend Sani Pass is to motor up and down by Quad Bike ! O/n Rocky Mountain lodge or similar.

Day 4. (B, D)
Depart the southern Drakensberg & travel to Northern Kwazulu - Natal. On the way, visit the Sharks Board (optional), kayak or cruise the St. Lucia Estuary, part of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, as UNESCO World Heritage site (see huge crocs, hippos, fantastic birdlife, mangroves) and attend a Zulu cultural show at Dumazulu. O/n Bushbaby Lodge or similar.

Day 5. (B, D)
A full day's safari into the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve, world renowned for its saving the Rhino. Search, among a great number of other species, the Big 5 of Africa, Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Leopard and Elephant. As optional extras, your Safari can be done in Open 4x4 and/or go on a night drive on open Safari truck to view nocturnal wildlife. O/n Bushbaby Lodge or similar.

Day 6. (B, D)
Spend the full day on your Special Interest program. Options are to visit Richards Bay Minerals- on an Environmental visit, a day in the Battlefields, Kloofing/ River Sliding, Rafting, Culture visits, a visit to lake Sibaya or Kosi Bay, bird watching opportunities or to go on foot into the African Bush. We arrange for you to interact with local specialists in your field of interest. O/n Bushbaby Lodge or similar.

Days 5 and 6 maybe spent hiking and sleeping in the Big5 - Umfolozi Game Reserve with a professional Bush Guide.

Day 7. (B, D)
An early Game Walk brings our guests within smelling range of the wildlife and within touching range of the African bush. Learn about identifying spoor and how to survive in the bush. After a shower, depart for Durban International Airport for flight to Cape Town, via Special Interest visits (time permitting before flight). Upon arrival in Cape Town, Table Mountain is first priority. There will be opportunity for extreme Adventurers to attempt Abseiling here, 1 000m+ above the Mother City ! Other passengers can hike the mountain or go by cable car. O/n Breakwater Lodge or similar.

Day 8. (B, D)
Cape Town offers fantastic opportunities for the photographer, historian, culture vulture, adventurer, geologist, maritime junkie, botanist etc. The day is spent pursuing your Special interest program. Options are a tour of The Castle, visit to the Waterfront and harbour, to travel around the Cape Peninsula via the famous Chapman's Peak drive, Cape Point, where the Indian and Atlantic Ocean currents meet and the Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve, a tour of the Winelands or a visit to Hermanus, the Whale capital of South Africa. O/n Breakwater Lodge or similar. Other options include adventure in Commando Canyon and Suicide Gorge, with fun activities offered, like Abseiling, kloofing, River crawling (November to April) and Quad Biking. Time can be spent with the San people (bushmen) of Kagga Kamma, after which we visit a farm, either Ostrich, Wine or Strawberry farm, for a tour of the workings, lands and products of the farm.

Day 9. (B, D)
You have the day for yourself, to just spend it EXACTLY the way you LIKE ! or, go for the stuff time did not permit yesterday. O/n Breakwater Lodge or similar.

Day 10. (B, D)
After your last breakfast in Cape Town, say 'bye to Table Mountain and we head for Cape Town International airport for your flight back home.

Price: Per full paying passenger. Valid for 2005.

Low season (May - August) discount = 10 %, only for full paying passengers.
