Itinerary (can be shortened or lengthened to requirements)
Day 1
Arrive Johannesburg. Your coach and guide will meet you at the airport and commence with an orientation tour of the infamous Johannesburg and surroundings, with fascinating historical and cultural visits. Time permitting, you'll travel further on to visit & exchange thoughts with esteemed Zulu Sangoma (spiritual healer) and custodian of Tribal Legends, Credo Mutwa. Late in the afternoon, we travel to your hotel. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at the Indaba Hotel or similar.
Day 2
After breakfast, you'll be collected by your guide for a visit to Credo and more visits to Cultural, Spiritual and sacred places around Johannesburg and Soweto. An optional excursion of the Cradle of Humankind may be arranged. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at the Indaba Hotel or similar.
Day 3
Bags packed, we go overland, via the far away Panorama route, offering God's Window and Blyde River Canyon, to the town of Tzaneen. Upon arrival, check into your hotel. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at the Fairview River Lodge or similar.
Day 4
"Modjadji is a direct descendant of the once mighty kingdom of Monomotapa, who ruled over the Karanga people in Zimbabwe during the 15th century. Following a royal scandal in the house of the king, his daughter, Princess Dzugungini and her son fled south from the kingdom. With her, she carried the potions and secrets of making rain and medicines to protect her against her enemies. These powers were passed down through her family line, and her granddaughter was crowned the first Rain Queen, Modjadji."
Finding yourself in the Province of 'Limpopo', we make the most of this Land of the Legend of the Venda and the BaLubedu people at GaModjadji. Today is set aside for a visit to the realm of Modjadji, the Rain Queen. With a bit of luck, we may even lay eyes upon her! Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at the Fairview River Lodge or similar.
Day 5
"One of the most sacred sites is Lake Fundudzi.....the belief holds that it is a remnant of the waters that covered the earth before the appearance of dry land, and that it is inhabited by a great python and a white crocodile, which guard the spirit world of the deep. VhaVenda girls perform the Domba dance in honour of the python."
After breakfast, the coach and guide leads you through a number of small villages where you can see the Dzata VhaVenda Ruins, soak up the mystical atmosphere of the Sacred Forest, feel your spirit come alive at Lake Fundudzi and experience a rural Spa, where locals believe the warm waters pass through the belly of a giant python before bubbling out on the surface. This land of deep rural areas offer ample opportunity of consultation with spiritual healers, on arrangement. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at Vevisa Lodge or similar.
Day 6
The tour swings in a southerly direction, finding its way towards the Timbavati, endemic habitat of the White Lion. Although hardly any left in the wild, these magestic creatures are visited at the breeding facility. Later on, we head for the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehab centre, to spend the afternoon in the precious close up company of Eagles, Vultures and the variety of Wild, like Rhino and even Leopard! Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at Moholoholo Forest Camp or similar.
Day 7
"One of the oldest Conservation projects in Africa, the Kruger National Park, answers the nature/creature lover and Dreamer of Africa's quest for Safari and offer the Big 5 of Africa, along with more than 50 species of Mammals and in access of 500 species of bird; a Nature Wonder!"
A full day is spent, searching, tracking the proud and the shy, the illusive and the stately, from giant Elephants to the posers: the Giraffes, to monkeys and baboons, to name but a few. This wilderness offers ideal opportunities for that sought after picture or perfect sunset over the African savanna. Energy permitted, a Night Safari would be an optional extra. Day 8
We cross the border into the Kingdom of Swaziland and travel through, not missing out on the fantastic variety of craft, from Glass work to Weaving to Candle making. The kind peoples of this country are Artists of the earth and their pride in displaying this humbles the visitor.
In the late morning, we exit through Lavumisa and enters the domain of the Tonga and the Nguni peoples of Southern Africa, the Zulu. The tour travels through vast areas of traditional land, before stopping at the border and entering tropical Mozambique. Here, the travel game changes drastically, when luggage is swung onto a 4x4, and passengers bounce along with off road vehicle along the dunes, into this land of ex war upon war, long white beaches, palms, sweet folk and the ocean with countless tropical creatures, among them...dolphins ! Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at Tartaruga or similar.
Day 9
"Enter if you wish...the magical watery realm of the Dolphins of Ponta, the sun drenched beaches of southern Mozambique and the tranquility of the Dolphin BeachCamp...island style!"
Research suggests that the effects of dolphins are both physiological as well as psychological. Dolphins uplift the spirit and bridge the gap with mother nature. The dolphins give us the opportunity of experiencing life for what it should be...and it is only through being in harmony with our natural environment can we experience a connection with nature. And it is through this connection with nature that the human can start contributing positively to the protection of our now very delicate marine environment."
Guests enjoy 2 magical days with a Dolphin trip per day, with sun, sand & seafood in between, as well as connecting with relevant interesting local players. Weather not permitting, Mozambique in itself offers a sole soothing experience, with coastline walk, snorkelling in the warm current and other activities.
Day 10
"All our boats launch from the protection of Ponta bay and go to sea with a Dolphin Skipper who has experience in reading dolphin behavior and identifying individual dolphins as well as a Dolphin Swim Facilitator. It is the swim facilitators' job firstly to lead the swim through knowing how to interact with and hold the dolphin's attention and secondly assist anyone who needs assistance in the water."
After more opportunity to meet Dolphin and friends, it's time to put Mozambique into memory. The Dune Drive takes us back to border, after which the tour head south west, direction another famous wilderness: Maputaland. In the late afternoon, we board our vehicles for an Open Vehicle Night Safari with sundowners in the bush. Day 11
The tour leaves the beautiful, tropical coastline and travels inland, through 1 000 hills and valleys and deep into the 'uKhahlamba' or "Barrier of Spears", the majestic Drakensberg, a UNESCO Cultural & Natural Transfrontier World Heritage site. In the late afternoon, guests can enjoy walks in this mecca of hiking routes and paths, leading to secret stream valleys and Caves with San paintings. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at Cathedral Peak Hotel/ Didima or similar.
Day 12
"Through intense concentration, prolonged dancing and hyperventilation, the shaman achieves an altered state of conciousness during which he performs healing rituals and experiences of out-of-body travelling."
Today is set aside for an in-depth peep into the conscious and subconscious states of ordinary San people and Shamans, through their paintings, dated back thousands of years. Local guides will take us on off the beaten track secret paths, leading through spectacular montane forest and grassland to hidden overhangs, and explain, in depth, the simbolism of the fascinating pictures. Time permitted, we visit KwaZulu Weavers and Intokoziza for a variety of quality local Craft. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at Cathedral Peak Hotel/ Didima or similar.
Day 13
After breakfast and leisure, we get ourselves and our luggage onto the coach for the journey across the 'Highveld' to Johannesburg (having travelled a life changing circle), for the flight to Cape Town. Having landed in the Mother City, we'll go sight seeing, witnessing character venues like the 'Bokaap', the Castle and the Company Gardens. Come evening, guests will have an opportunity to go to the Waterfront or seek nightlife of any kind of their preference. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis Dale Court or similar.
Day 14
"...Table Mountain is a 'vortex', a place where multiple 'ley lines' intersect to produce an enormous concentration of natural energies that enhance psychic abilities and healing powers." One presumes they also have a balancing effect on the energy systems of the planet.
The tour has this day dedicated to travel to and around Table Mountain and Peninsula, and, while having awe inspiring sight seeing and, time permitting, a wine route as a bonus, discover, with a local authority in the field, this spiritual landmark. Dinner is had at Mamma Africa, with Traditional Marimba entertainment. Overnight on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at Dale Court or similar.
Day 15
Last tributes to be paid and, alas, we've got to start making our way home. The guests who has decided to stay a while continue with their program/ leisure time, while the rest head for the airport for the journey home. In the late morning, we board the first leg of the flight home.
